Premier League Winter Break – All You Need To Know
Premier League teams will be handed a winter break for the first time in 2020.
Here’s more information on the 2019/20 Premier League winter break and how it will fit into the English football calendar.
When is the Premier League winter break?
The first winter break will take place between Feb 8th – Feb 22nd and is a split break. This means that Premier League football will not actually stop for two weeks, but instead one full round of Premier League games will be split in half and played over two weekends. This is mainly to satisfy TV and broadcasting companies with all 10 Premier League games will being shown live on TV.
Why is a winter break being introduced?
For a while now foreign managers have been campaigning for a winter break to be introduced in England, as is enjoyed by all other major European leagues. It’s argued that a short winter break will benefit players for the second half of the season, especially after the hectic Christmas schedule and for those Premier League teams who have made the latter stages of European cup competitions.
